Subaru has officially revealed that its new high-riding electric estate car will hit the UK market as the E-Outback, solidifying its role as a fully electric successor to the brand’s iconic SUV-wagon. This marks a significant milestone for Subaru as it ventures deeper into the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with its first in-house developed EV.

A Trailblazer in the US, Now Bound for Europe

First introduced earlier this year in the US under the name Trailseeker, the E-Outback is set to make waves with its rugged design and versatile performance. Boasting four-wheel drive and an impressive 8.3 inches (211mm) of ground clearance—matching Subaru’s Solterra electric SUV—the E-Outback is built to tackle diverse terrains while offering the practicality of an estate.

The E-Outback will launch in the US in early 2026, with the UK and other European markets following closely behind. It will join Subaru’s growing EV lineup, which includes the revamped 2026 Solterra and the newly unveiled Uncharted crossover, as the brand pushes to electrify its portfolio.

Built by Subaru, for Subaru Enthusiasts

Unlike the Solterra, which is twinned with the Toyota bZ4X, and the Uncharted, based on the Toyota C-HR+, the E-Outback is a distinctly Subaru creation. According to Inoue Masahiko, Subaru’s EV product manager, the vehicle features approximately 70% Subaru-specific parts and will be manufactured in one of Subaru’s own factories, unlike the Toyota-built Solterra.

The E-Outback is powered by dual 201bhp electric motors (one per axle), delivering a combined output of 375bhp. This setup enables a brisk 0-60mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds, optimized for Subaru’s signature all-wheel-drive performance. Inoue noted that the decision to use identical motors was made to enhance the vehicle’s off-road capabilities.

Range, Charging, and Towing Prowess

Equipped with a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery, the E-Outback offers an estimated range of 279 miles (pending official WLTP testing). It supports 150kW fast charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in under 35 minutes. For adventurers, the E-Outback can tow up to 1588kg and features multiple drive modes tailored for challenging surfaces like snow and deep mud, along with a hill descent control system for added confidence on steep slopes.

Spacious and Tech-Forward Interior

Inside, the E-Outback provides slightly more cargo space than the Solterra, aligning it closely with the traditional Outback model. It boasts Subaru’s largest infotainment system to date—a 14.0-inch touchscreen—paired with a high-set digital instrument cluster, offering a modern and driver-focused cabin experience.

Pricing and Availability

While Subaru has yet to disclose pricing, the E-Outback is expected to sit above the Solterra in the lineup, reflecting its premium positioning. Deliveries are slated to begin in early 2026 in the US, with the UK and Europe to follow shortly after.

Subaru’s Expanding EV Vision

At the recent New York Motor Show, Subaru showcased the Trailseeker alongside a significantly updated Solterra and confirmed plans to introduce two additional EVs this year, though only one will make its way to Europe. Given Subaru’s ongoing partnership with Toyota, this could be a restyled version of the new Toyota C-HR+. However, Subaru is also looking ahead, with plans for fully in-house developed EVs starting in 2028.

The E-Outback represents Subaru’s commitment to blending its rugged, all-wheel-drive heritage with cutting-edge electric performance. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting EV prepares to hit the roads!
