A woman in her 60s has died following a serious road traffic collision in County Down.

The incident occurred on Portaferry Road, near Newtownards, on the morning of Friday, 25 April. Police were alerted shortly after 10:20am to a crash involving three vehicles: a red lorry heading towards Greyabbey, and a silver Citroen Berlingo and a white Audi A3, both travelling towards Newtownards.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. Inspector Cherith Adair from the Collision Investigation Unit confirmed that a female passenger in the Citroen Berlingo died at the scene. Eight others – three men, two women, and three children – were taken to hospital for treatment.

The Portaferry Road was closed for most of the day to allow for a detailed examination of the scene but has since reopened. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dash-cam or other footage that may assist with their enquiries to contact police on 101, quoting reference CW 422 25/04/25, or to report online at psni.police.uk/makeareport.
