Can I challenge a bus lane PCN if roadworks forced me into the lane?

Roadworks can alter normal lane use, signs and traffic flow. The official camera may not show temporary signs positioned before the camera, so your own evidence can be important.

Describe the route and where ordinary traffic was diverted. If a traffic officer, contractor or temporary signal directed vehicles, include that detail.

The issue is whether using the bus lane was effectively required by the temporary arrangements, not merely that roadworks made the general route slower.

Bus-lane PCNs are statutory notices. The official video evidence, operating hours, signs and exact vehicle movement are usually central to a useful challenge, so record those details before submitting anything.

Keep copies of every document and note the dates you sent or received correspondence. If formal court papers arrive, respond through the court process by the stated deadline rather than assuming an earlier appeal or complaint has paused proceedings.
