Can I challenge a bus lane PCN if the signs were unclear?

Photograph the approach a driver actually used, including advance signs, lane markings and any obstruction caused by trees, roadworks or other vehicles.

Check the operating hours as well. Some bus lanes operate only at particular times, while bus-only streets or gates can have different restrictions.

Use the official video evidence alongside your own photographs. A strong challenge explains exactly why the restriction was not adequately conveyed at the point the vehicle entered, rather than simply saying the driver did not notice it.

Bus-lane PCNs are statutory notices. The official video evidence, operating hours, signs and exact vehicle movement are usually central to a useful challenge, so record those details before submitting anything.

Keep copies of every document and note the dates you sent or received correspondence. If formal court papers arrive, respond through the court process by the stated deadline rather than assuming an earlier appeal or complaint has paused proceedings.
