Can I drive in Northern Ireland on an EU or EEA driving licence?

Vocational licences are treated differently: time limits based on residency and age can apply to lorry, minibus and bus entitlements. Also, if the EU/EEA licence was issued in exchange for a licence from a non-exchangeable country, it may be valid in NI for only a limited period and may not qualify for normal exchange.

Check both the expiry date and the actual vehicle categories. An EU/EEA photocard that is still in date is not permission to drive a category that is not shown on the licence.

A useful NI distinction is between the right to drive on the existing licence and the right to exchange it. They are related but not identical.
