Do I have to exchange an Irish driving licence after moving to Northern Ireland?

Northern Ireland recognises Republic of Ireland licences within its exchange framework. For ordinary car and motorcycle entitlement, the important points are that the licence is genuine, valid for the category you are driving and that you meet the residency rules.

You may prefer an NI licence if NI is now your permanent home, particularly before the Irish licence expires or when dealing with local licensing matters. Vocational categories can have extra requirements and should be checked separately.
