It seems that the car world is still a man's world here in the 21st century. I drove a considerable distance to view a Nissan Quasqai 1.5 N-connecta following an inquiry with the salesperson at this branch. He couldn't explain why the vehicle had been on their lot for over a month when I know these models are generally snapped up, rather diverting my question and telling me how many other cars they sell every week/month. I was left to look over the body work but failed to notice several chip marks to the bonnet that were clearly evident on delivery of the vehicle. Hard not to notice white chip marks on a black background and the ones I had seen I acknowledged as they were that obvious. On questioning this after the sale, he denied that they weren't there and said he couldn't make the car look any better. Not sure if I'm living in an alternate reality but that's not how you respond to a customer who's just forked out over £15k and I told him not to treat me like an idiot. In a nutshell, he was less than transparent and in hindsight, extremely evasive to any questions I posed making it difficult to get a clear picture of the car in question. My son asked if I'd looked at the service history a couple of days later and was astonished to hear the that the manufacturer's warranty had pretty much been invalidated within the first year of new ownership (almost 3k miles past it's first recommended 9k service) It got even worse after that with the next service carried out at 36+k and the third at almost 50k. Interestingly, CH carried out a major service at 60+K and somehow ran up over 3k miles on the odometer between that major service and a minor one they carried out a few days later. This small chapter makes no sense to me but it's no longer my problem. My son said to return the vehicle immediately for a full refund. Being a weekend, I could only begin dealing with this on the Monday and chose to communicate with the sales manager rather than the rude salesman. I won't call him a sales "executive" as he doesn't deserve the title. Btw, the knowing smirks exchanged between the salesman and another employee in the showroom on the day of the transaction was not lost on me. I've been around far longer than the both of them. Just saying. The SM would not agree to a refund but agreed to exchange the vehicle which I was happy to do. Nearing the end of this unfortunate saga, another 1.5 became available at a different branch that I test drove and was happy with barring superficial paintwork scratches and 2 fairly worn tyres. The service history was a bit out of kilter according to manufacturer's recommendations but I was assured that it was insufficient to invalidate the warranty so I went ahead with the exchange after they'd polished (most) of the scratches out and got the reassurance that there was still 5-10k miles of tread left on the tyres. While waiting on the documentation and invoice to pay the higher price for this car, I had to call the SM for clarity on a few points and I could hear him strumming his fingers loudly on his desk, showing his impatience and obvious lack of any respect while I completed the paperwork. The only redemption I can offer to CH Portadown is the fact that they delivered the new vehicle to me and took the other one away. The driver was very nice as was Kyle at Newtonabbey and the 2 young employees that I dealt with along the way. As for the senior management and sales "executive" , one can only hope that their bad attitudes and lack of professionalism don't rub off on the younger ones. The saying "as above so below" may yet apply one day but I won't be around to find out.
