Avoid Mark Ross Motors at all costs. I bought a car after being told it had been serviced by their “highly trained mechanics” and that their reputation was on the line. One day later, the brakes started seizing up. From the moment I contacted them, all I got was attitude and excuses. They insisted I pay for an independent mechanic’s report before they would even discuss the issue. The independent mechanics who inspected the car were shocked by the condition of the brake discs, pads, and calipers. There was also a leak at the clutch which would have needed repair. In total over a thousand worth of repairs needed. They said no responsible mechanic should ever have released that car in that state. I paid the report along and sent video evidence. I had my two children in that car. Mark Ross Motors put our safety at risk. Despite this, I was still forced to arrange and pay for the car to be towed back myself. They ignored my requests for a refund even though I was legally entitled to one for an unroadworthy vehicle until they seen video evidence and I advised I was seeking legal advice. What made it even worse was that the day the car was returned, it was advertised back up for sale that same day — while I was still legally the owner because the V5 had not yet been transferred back and there is no way any repairs had been done. When I finally went down with the V5 two days later, the car was sitting right at the front for sale again, and I still hadn’t received a penny back at that point. Absolutely disgusting experience from start to finish. I lost hundreds of pounds just trying to get my money back, and all I got in return was a half-hearted apology muttered under someone’s breath. Please don’t let this happen to you.

My personal experience with Ross Motors was disappointing. I do not usually leave negative reviews; however, I feel it is important to share my experience as the dealership appears to target first-time buyers, who may be more vulnerable and at risk of financial loss. We initially visited Ross Motors to purchase a vehicle for my daughter. We were interested in a white Ford Fiesta, but this option was quickly ruled out due to visible damage to the bonnet. We then considered a Kia Picanto. Overall, the car appeared acceptable, although the tyres were worn, which I was prepared to accept. During the test drive, however, I noticed that the clutch biting point was very high, a common indication that the clutch may soon require replacement. While I am not a mechanic, I have driven manual vehicles for many years and average approximately 60,000 miles annually, so I am familiar with the signs of clutch wear. Additionally, the vehicle was advertised as having two keys, but only one was provided. I raised both the clutch concern and the missing key with the salesperson on the day. In hindsight, I should have insisted that these issues be formally documented on the basic “agreement” I was asked to sign. In my experience, reputable dealers honour verbal assurances; unfortunately, this was not the case here. Once the agreement was signed, the dealership relied heavily on terms and conditions that appeared to favour them exclusively. We paid a £300 deposit, despite being encouraged to pay the full amount upfront. The following day, I was informed that my role may be at risk of redundancy. I contacted Ross Motors immediately to explain my situation and requested a refund of the deposit. This was refused, citing company policy. I explained that my employment situation would not be confirmed for at least a month. I was then told that their policy only allowed for a 14-day holding period. Given the circumstances, I found this response insensitive and unhelpful. Shortly afterwards, I received an email stating that the vehicle had been inspected by their workshop and, unsurprisingly, no fault was found with the clutch. I was also informed that an additional key would cost £150 plus VAT. I am sharing this review to help inform others. My advice to prospective buyers would be: 1. Bring an independent mechanic with you if possible. 2. Ensure any concerns are clearly documented on the dealership’s agreement before signing. 3. Check the vehicle’s registration on the Parkers website for a free valuation. 4. Pay the smallest deposit possible. 5. Consider travelling a short distance to Lisburn to find a more reputable dealer. I hope this helps others make a more informed decision.
