North West 200 confirms 2027 race week dates and major schedule changes

The North West 200 will run from 10 to 15 May 2027, with qualifying moving back to Tuesday and Briggs Equipment extending its title sponsorship through the event's 2029 centenary.

The North West 200 has already begun shaping its 2027 edition, confirming race week for 10-15 May and announcing a significant change to the qualifying schedule. The north coast event will move its opening qualifying session back to Tuesday, restoring a pattern that gives teams and organisers more separation between the first practice day and Thursday evening racing.

The announcement arrives alongside a major commercial commitment. Briggs Equipment has agreed to continue as title sponsor through the North West 200's centenary anniversary in 2029, giving organisers a multi-year partner as they plan the next three editions of Northern Ireland's largest outdoor sporting event.

Tuesday qualifying returns

For the 2024-2026 period, qualifying had been concentrated on Wednesday and Thursday. In 2027 the first session is scheduled for Tuesday 11 May after roads close at 9am. The second qualifying session is planned for Thursday 13 May, again after a 9am road closure.

Thursday evening will then feature the first three races, with the roads closing again at 4.45pm. Saturday 15 May remains the main race day, with six races planned after the 9am closure.

Classes remain familiar

The published schedule continues to centre on the North West 200's key classes: Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and Supertwin/Sportbike. Tuesday and Thursday practice sessions are structured around those categories, with a newcomers-only session also included at the start of Tuesday's programme.

The Thursday evening race programme is scheduled to include Superbike, Supersport and Superstock races. Saturday is set to carry two Superbike races, a Supersport race, a Superstock race and two Supertwin/Sportbike contests.

Contingency day remains part of the plan

The 2027 arrangements retain the flexibility created by Northern Ireland's amended road-race legislation. Friday 14 May is identified as the contingency day if extreme weather forces a change. Any alteration still requires notice and would be communicated through official North West 200 channels.

That weather flexibility matters on the Triangle course, where racing connects Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine and competitors regularly exceed 200mph on public roads that are converted into a race circuit for the event.

Briggs deal runs to the centenary

The sponsorship extension is strategically important. Organisers say Briggs Equipment will remain title partner until the centenary anniversary in 2029. The agreement gives the event a degree of commercial continuity at a time when road racing faces substantial costs around insurance, safety infrastructure, road preparation and event operations.

The North West 200 recorded major crowds again in 2026 and remains one of the defining events in Northern Ireland motorsport. The official event material cites around 100,000 visitors and a field of roughly 100 riders, illustrating the scale involved compared with national road races.

What fans can plan for now

Race week is fixed for Monday 10 to Saturday 15 May 2027. The detailed timetable can still be amended closer to the event, but the basic structure is clear: qualifying Tuesday and Thursday, opening races Thursday evening, and the main six-race programme on Saturday.

For teams, spectators and local businesses, having those dates published in autumn 2026 gives more than six months to plan accommodation and travel. For PureCar Motorsport, the 2027 North West 200 will be treated as an ongoing story, with entries, regulations, road closures, rider announcements and race-week results all tracked separately as they are confirmed.
