Can a supermarket cancel a private parking charge?

If you were a genuine customer, contact the supermarket or retail-park management quickly. Provide the Parking Charge Notice number, vehicle registration and proof of custom such as a receipt, bank transaction or loyalty-app record.

Explain the specific reason for the problem: a medical delay, broken machine, registration typo, disabled parking issue, queue or other exceptional circumstance. A concise evidence-based request is more useful than simply demanding cancellation.

Continue to protect any formal appeal deadline with the parking operator. A retailer complaint does not automatically pause the operator's process. Keep written confirmation if the landowner says it has requested cancellation, because it can be useful if automated debt letters continue afterwards.

In Northern Ireland, private parking disputes are civil matters and the Consumer Council distinguishes driver liability from registered-keeper status. Always separate a private Parking Charge Notice from an official Penalty Charge Notice because the appeal and enforcement routes are different.
