Can I appeal a private parking charge because of a medical emergency?

Explain the emergency without disclosing more sensitive medical information than is reasonably necessary. Useful evidence might include an appointment record, discharge note, pharmacy timestamp or other document showing why leaving on time was not realistic.

If the car park served a hospital, clinic, retailer or venue, contact the landowner or customer-service team as well as the parking operator. Landowners can sometimes ask their contractor to cancel a charge where the circumstances justify it.

Submit the appeal within the stated deadline if possible. A genuine emergency is stronger when the timing and circumstances are clearly documented. Keep copies of everything you send and any acknowledgement because later appeal stages may require the same evidence.

In Northern Ireland, private parking disputes are civil matters and the Consumer Council distinguishes driver liability from registered-keeper status. Always separate a private Parking Charge Notice from an official Penalty Charge Notice because the appeal and enforcement routes are different.
