Can I get a speed awareness course instead of points in Northern Ireland?

A course is not something every driver can demand. The Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership decides whether the case falls within the applicable criteria.

If the NIP form invites you to be considered for a course, complete the required driver and licence information correctly. PSNI's completion guidance says missing information can prevent course registration.

Do not delay the NIP response while waiting to see whether a course might be offered. If you are ineligible, the case may proceed by fixed penalty or court depending on the circumstances and your existing points.

Police fixed penalties and camera notices are not private debts. Read the response deadline carefully, comply with any separate legal requirement to identify the driver, and use the court-hearing route if you genuinely dispute an allegation that cannot be resolved administratively.
