Where PureCar gets its MOT and car tax data
PureCar uses official UK government vehicle services for its live MOT and vehicle tax tools. We display the data returned by those services and do not invent vehicle test or tax results.
Northern Ireland MOT history
PureCar's MOT checker uses the official MOT History API. The API combines vehicle and MOT test information from Great Britain and Northern Ireland and includes Northern Ireland records from 2017 onwards.
Northern Ireland test records are identified as DVA NI. The official API supplies vehicle and test information for those records, but does not provide defect details for DVA NI tests.
Vehicle tax and DVLA data
PureCar's Car Tax Checker uses the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. A registration lookup can return the vehicle's current tax status along with supporting vehicle information.
Depending on the record, this can include tax due date, MOT status, MOT expiry, make, year of manufacture, engine capacity, CO₂ emissions, fuel type, colour, type approval, revenue weight, wheelplan, export status and V5C information.
Why MOT and tax information can differ
The MOT History API and the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service are separate official services. Updates can reach those systems at different times, particularly after a recent test or a change to a vehicle record.
For detailed MOT test history, use the PureCar MOT checker. For the current DVLA tax record, use the PureCar Car Tax Checker.
