What affects the value of a used car?
Two cars with the same model name can be worth very different amounts. These are the main factors to consider when checking what your car may be worth.
Age and year
Age is one of the clearest differences between comparable cars. Newer examples usually sit in a different price range from older versions of the same model.
Mileage
Lower and higher mileage examples can sell at different prices, which is why current mileage is required rather than guessed.
trim
A basic model comparison is not enough. Engine, powertrain and derivative can materially change the asking price.
Trim level
Sport, premium and higher equipment grades can sit at different values from entry-level versions of the same vehicle.
Condition
An online valuation cannot inspect bodywork, tyres, wheels, interior wear or mechanical condition, so the real selling price can differ.
History and maintenance
Service history, MOT history, number of owners, repairs and other vehicle history can all influence what a buyer is prepared to pay.
Market value, private sale and part-exchange are different
The figure shown by PureCar is primarily an estimate of the current advertised market, based on available comparable vehicles. It should not be treated as a guaranteed cash offer.
Advertised market value
What comparable cars are currently being advertised for. This is the main basis of the PureCar estimate.
Private sale value
The amount a private buyer may actually pay can depend on condition, urgency, negotiation and demand for the exact car.
Part-exchange value
A dealership may offer less than a retail asking price because the vehicle may need preparation, warranty, servicing and resale margin.
