Used EVs under £12,000 are now visible in NI stock

The most important change is not that one specific e-208 happened to be £9,995. It is that several mainstream EV models are appearing around the £10,000–£12,000 level.

That creates a very different comparison from a few years ago, when many buyers assumed an electric car automatically meant spending new-car money. In the current PureCar snapshot, the lower end includes conventional supermini and compact-SUV choices rather than only unusual or very old electric vehicles.

Peugeot e-208: the lowest observed entry point in this snapshot

A 2020 e-208 with 49,821 miles was recently listed on PureCar at £9,995. Other e-208 examples on the same dealer page were materially more expensive, including newer and lower-mileage cars.

That spread is exactly why buyers should not treat £9,995 as “the value of an e-208”. It is the asking price of one particular car with a particular age, mileage and specification.

Vauxhall Corsa Electric: another route around £11,000

A 2021 Corsa Electric with 33,058 miles was visible at £10,995. For buyers already comfortable with the size of a conventional Corsa, the electric version can therefore sit in the same broad used-price conversation as many petrol automatics.

Again, battery condition, charging capability, warranty position and exact specification need to be checked against the individual vehicle.

Peugeot e-2008: electric crossover prices around £11k–£13k

Recent PureCar stock contained several e-2008s at different prices and mileages, including a 2022 car at £11,495 and a 2020 example at £12,095. A wider PureCar search snapshot showed an electric 2008 at £10,995.

That is useful because repeated examples are stronger evidence of an emerging price band than a single isolated advert.

Newer EVs still climb quickly in price

The lower end of the market should not be confused with the whole EV market. A 2026 MG4 was visible at £17,950, while a Polestar 2 search result was £20,695. Premium and larger EVs can remain substantially more expensive.

That wide spread reflects age, battery size, model positioning, mileage and specification rather than electric propulsion alone.

What should you check before buying a cheaper used EV?

1. Battery health and usable range

Do not rely only on the original brochure range. Ask what the car reports at a high state of charge, check battery-health information where available and understand that temperature, speed, heating, wheel size and driving style affect real-world range.

2. Battery warranty

Check the manufacturer warranty terms that apply to the exact registration and battery. Do not assume every used EV has the same remaining cover.

3. Charging compatibility

Confirm the AC and rapid-charging capability of the exact model/year, the cable supplied with the car and whether your normal charging locations suit it.

4. MOT and service history

Electric cars still have tyres, brakes, suspension, steering, air-conditioning and other components that need inspection. Review the recorded MOT history and servicing rather than focusing solely on the battery.

5. Insurance before you buy

Get an insurance quote for the exact registration or model before committing. Purchase price alone does not determine running cost.
