UNDERSTANDING THE DATA
What these statistics mean
Is every record a stolen car?
No. Police.uk groups vehicle theft, theft from vehicles and certain interference offences into a broader vehicle-crime category. We show the more specific PSNI theft statistics separately.
Can I identify where a car was stolen?
No. Police.uk deliberately anonymises locations. Pins show approximate areas rather than verified crime addresses.
Are these crime rates?
No. Raw offence counts do not account for population, vehicle ownership or parking activity. Higher counts alone do not establish that an area is less safe.
How frequently is the map updated?
The police publish crime records by month. PureCar displays the latest available imported month and retains historical records for comparison.
