What is a Notice of Intended Prosecution in Northern Ireland?

PSNI says a camera-detected speeding or red-light case can result in a NIP to the registered keeper. The notice contains vehicle details plus the date, time and location of the allegation.

A NIP is not itself a conviction. It also includes a legal request for the addressee to identify the driver, which must be dealt with correctly.

Check the vehicle and incident details, complete the relevant sections and sign the declaration as instructed. If there is a mistake, contact the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership using the details on the notice rather than altering or ignoring it.

Police fixed penalties and camera notices are not private debts. Read the response deadline carefully, comply with any separate legal requirement to identify the driver, and use the court-hearing route if you genuinely dispute an allegation that cannot be resolved administratively.
