Which Castlewellan village car parks are free at Lower Square and Upper Square?
Castlewellan Lower Square and Upper Square are both free council car parks. The council lists Lower Square at BT31 9DW with 35 spaces and Upper Square at BT31 9DB with 56.
Local car park, route and access details
These are village car parks, distinct from the parking and vehicle-admission arrangements inside Castlewellan Forest Park. The council’s non-charged car park schedule lists a 12-hour maximum stay for both Lower and Upper Square. Drivers visiting village businesses should therefore not assume that a free village parking space allows a vehicle to remain indefinitely.
What to check before travelling
Use the postcode to choose the part of Castlewellan where you intend to stop. For a long visit to the forest park, check the park’s own vehicle access charges and entry opening times rather than using the square car parks as if they were the same facility.
