Newry, Mourne and Down parking

Why do Newry council car parks and Newry on-street bays use different payment systems?

Newry council off-street car parks and Newry on-street pay-and-display bays are managed under different authorities. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council manages its off-street car parks and says to use RingGo for cashless payment. On-street parking is managed by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), not the council.

Local car park, route and access details

The distinction is based on where the vehicle is parked, not simply whether it is in Newry. The council lists 32 free and 11 charged car parks across the district, with a current ordinary tariff of 50p per hour at its paid council sites. On-street bays have their own rules, tariffs and payment instructions through the DfI system; in Northern Ireland, the JustPark app remains used for on-street cashless parking.

What to check before travelling

To avoid paying the wrong operator, read the sign at your exact parking space. A RingGo session at a council car park is not payment for a roadside DfI bay. Likewise, a roadside payment does not cover a nearby council off-street car park. Keep the location code or receipt if you need to query a notice.
