Why Northern Ireland MOT fees vary
DVA vehicle-test fees depend on the vehicle class and the type of test being carried out. A private car does not necessarily have the same charge as a motorcycle, minibus, commercial vehicle or specialist test.
The retest price is also different from a full-test price. A reduced retest fee applies only where the vehicle remains within the relevant DVA retest process and timing conditions.
Drivers should therefore check both the vehicle class and whether they are booking a full test or an eligible retest before assuming a price.
Common reasons you may end up paying another full-test fee
Retest application made too late
Missing the applicable reduced-fee application period can move the vehicle outside the normal retest process.
Retest completed too late
The retest itself also has to take place within the applicable completion period after the original test.
Different test requirement
Specialist or different vehicle-test categories can use different fee structures from the normal private-car MOT.
