The code appears on a Penalty Charge Notice so that the particular parking or bus-lane contravention being alleged can be identified.

CURRENT PCN AMOUNT

How much can the ticket cost?

The standard Northern Ireland PCN charge is £90.

A 50% discount reduces this to £45 when payment is made within the first 14 days.

If the case progresses to a Charge Certificate, the amount increases to £135.

How code 49 is enforced.

Code 49 applies only to mandatory cycle lanes, which are separated from general traffic by a solid white line, bollards or a raised island. Advisory cycle lanes marked with broken lines are not enforced by traffic attendants under this code.
