From 1 October 2026, Northern Ireland’s Graduated Driver Licensing system introduces a structured Programme of Training and digital Logbook. Category B learners have 14 mandatory modules plus an optional motorway module.

Each mandatory module must be completed and recorded in the learner’s GDL Logbook.
Modules can be signed off by a supervising driver or an approved instructor. A final sign-off is also required.
The theory test and, where applicable, the six-month Mandatory Minimum Learning Period also need to be satisfied.
