The current car theory test uses 50 multiple-choice questions with a 43/50 pass mark, plus hazard perception with a 44/75 pass mark.
The practical car test includes an eyesight check, two vehicle-safety questions and about 40 minutes of driving.
The practical test currently allows up to 15 driving faults, but one serious or dangerous fault results in failure.
From 1 October 2026, new Category B learners in Northern Ireland come under GDL rules.
