How does the A2 Antrim Coast Road differ from the A8 route to Larne?

The A2 follows the Belfast Lough and Antrim coastal side through towns and villages, while the A8 provides a more direct inland approach between the Belfast area and Larne.

The A2 follows the Belfast Lough and Antrim coastal side through towns and villages, while the A8 provides a more direct inland approach between the Belfast area and Larne.

For a leisure drive to places such as Ballygally, Glenarm or Carnlough, the A2 scenery is often the point of the journey. For a ferry departure at Larne Harbour, the A8 may be more suitable. They are not interchangeable routes for a tight timetable; check the destination and conditions first.
