What is the safest way to plan a cross-border drive from Newry to Carlingford?

Newry and Carlingford are connected by roads around Carlingford Lough, but Carlingford is in the Republic of Ireland and is not the same destination as Warrenpoint or Rostrevor.

Use the town of Carlingford or a specific address in your satnav, and allow for the border crossing and local roads near the lough. An alternative crossing may involve the Carlingford ferry between Greenore and Greencastle; check current operation before planning a journey around it.
