What is the usual main-road route between Belfast and Downpatrick?
The A7 is the main road corridor commonly used from Belfast towards Downpatrick.
It is distinct from the A24 route to Newcastle and the A2 coastal route through the Ards Peninsula. Discover Northern Ireland identifies the A7 for Belfast–Downpatrick journeys. If you are travelling to the Downpatrick town centre, a museum or a ferry connection farther east, enter that actual destination so you do not end up on a road leading towards the wrong coast.
