£60 and three points

NI Direct states there is a £60 fixed penalty and three penalty points for failing to use the required child restraint.

The driver must ensure a child under 14 uses the correct restraint or seat belt where the law requires it.

COURT

Higher fine can apply

Separate NI seat-belt guidance lists a potential court fine of up to £500 for carrying a child under 14 without the proper restraint.
