NORTHERN IRELAND DRIVING OFFENCE

Failing to Give Information About a Driver in Northern Ireland

Failing to provide required information about the identity of a driver is itself an endorsable Northern Ireland road traffic offence.

CURRENT POINTS

The offence carries six penalty points

The Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 amended the penalty for failure to give driver-identification information from three points to six penalty points.

WHY SOURCES CAN DIFFER

Some older tables still show three points

Older published offence-code material can still show three points for code 50 08 040. Current legislation increased the figure to six, so PureCar uses the later statutory position.

COURT

The offence can also result in a fine

Northern Ireland penalty guidance lists a maximum fine of £1,000 and discretionary disqualification for failing to identify the driver of a vehicle.
