Can I leave my vehicle in Derry William Street car park after closing time?
No, do not assume you can drive out at any hour. William Street council car park in Derry has restricted opening hours: Monday to Saturday 7.30am–10pm, and Sunday 9am–8pm.
Local car park, route and access details
Derry City and Strabane District Council explicitly says vehicles left inside after closing will be locked in. William Street is also a charged site during Monday-to-Saturday pay-and-display hours, listed at 70p per hour between 8.30am and 6.30pm. Finishing parking charges at 6.30pm is not the same as the car park staying accessible overnight.
What to check before travelling
If you are attending an evening event, check that you can return to the car before the gate closes; otherwise choose a car park listed as open 24/7. The council provides an emergency number, 0870 333 1506, for vehicles locked in. That should not be treated as a routine late-exit service.
