What happens if my car is left in Strabane Canal Basin car park after it closes?
If your car is still inside Strabane Canal Basin car park after its published 8.30pm closing time, the council says it will be locked in. The car park is listed as open every day from 7.30am until 8.30pm.
Local car park, route and access details
The Canal Basin site is unusual because it is among the council’s named exceptions to its general rule that most council car parks are open 24/7. The council also lists Canal Basin (Dock Street) and Canal Basin North as free parking facilities, but free parking does not remove the gate-opening restriction. Anyone planning an evening visit in Strabane should check the exact site and exit time.
What to check before travelling
If you are already locked in, the published emergency contact is 0870 333 1506. Avoid relying on that as a planned way to retrieve your car after hours. For late returns, compare other Strabane council sites and their signage rather than assuming every free car park has the same access times.
