Where can I park a motorhome in a Derry and Strabane council car park?
Derry City and Strabane District Council does not designate any of its car parks specifically for motorhomes or campervans. It says a motorhome can use a standard council car park only where the vehicle fits wholly within the marked parking bays.
Local car park, route and access details
This is particularly relevant for drivers bringing larger campervans to Derry city centre, where some sites are small or have limited marked space. The council does not provide a blanket exemption allowing a long motorhome to extend across neighbouring bays or beyond the bay markings. Its ordinary parking enforcement rules still apply, including any charging and opening restrictions of the chosen site.
What to check before travelling
Check your vehicle’s full parked dimensions, not just whether it can enter. If you want an overnight stop with camping facilities, a licensed campsite or purpose-built motorhome stop is more suitable than assuming a standard public car park allows overnight habitation. Read the specific car park sign before leaving your vehicle.
