Your entitlement date matters
Under GDL, the six-month minimum learning period starts from the first date of the Category B provisional entitlement, subject to the official rules and limited exemptions.
You need the correct provisional entitlement before learning on public roads or booking the relevant theory and practical tests. From 1 October 2026, the main NI car and motorcycle test route also requires a Northern Ireland provisional licence.
