DVA data · 2025/26

Northern Ireland driving-test statistics.

The latest completed financial-year figures show record-level demand for learner testing. PureCar separates tests actually conducted from applications and missed appointments so the numbers are not confused with a waiting-list figure.

Applications are not a waiting list

There were more practical-test applications than tests conducted during 2025/26, but subtracting one figure from the other does not create a valid backlog number. Applications and completed tests are flows across the year, and bookings can be changed, cancelled or made for later dates.

Demand rose faster than test delivery

Practical-test delivery rose 1.9% while applications rose 8.5% compared with 2024/25. That helps explain why appointment availability can still feel tight even in a year with more than 70,000 tests completed.

Theory-test non-attendance is substantial

DVA recorded 13,318 theory-test no-shows during 2025/26, around one in seven tests conducted. Missing an appointment wastes capacity and usually means the learner must arrange another test.

Use current booking availability

Historic volumes do not tell you whether Belfast, Omagh or another centre has a slot today. Use the official DVA booking service for live appointment availability.
