Blue Badge Parking Rules in Northern Ireland
A Blue Badge provides important on-street parking concessions, but it does not allow parking anywhere and private car parks can operate different rules.
Badge holders may normally use yellow lines for up to three hours.
A correctly displayed Blue Badge can normally allow parking for up to three hours on single or double yellow lines where it is safe to do so.
The concession does not apply everywhere.
- Do not park within 15 metres of a junction.
- Do not use the concession where loading or unloading is prohibited.
- Do not park on pedestrian crossings or their zig-zag areas.
- Do not use reserved bays for other specific users unless signs allow it.
- Do not park where the vehicle would create danger or obstruction.
On-street Controlled Parking Zones can provide additional concessions.
Official guidance states that Blue Badge holders may park free of charge and without a time limit in on-street pay-and-display areas unless a local traffic order imposes a specific time limit.
Do not assume a Blue Badge means free private parking.
The statutory Blue Badge concessions relate mainly to on-street public-road parking. Shopping centres, hospitals and other off-street operators can set their own charging and parking conditions.
