Parking Near Junctions in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland uses a clear 15 metre rule around junctions because parked vehicles can obstruct visibility and create danger for drivers and pedestrians.
You must not stop or park within 15 metres of a junction.
The Northern Ireland Highway Code states that vehicles must not stop or park within 15 metres (50 feet) of a junction except in the specified recognised parking circumstances.
DfI has a specific junction-parking contravention code.
Contravention code 01x applies to vehicles parked on double yellow lines within 15 metres of a junction, with no observation period.
A Blue Badge does not override the junction restriction.
Official Blue Badge guidance specifically states that badge holders must not park within 15 metres of a junction.
The 15 metre rule still matters where there are no yellow lines.
Nidirect states that vehicles are still not permitted to park within 15 metres of a junction where yellow lines are absent, although the enforcement route can differ and PSNI may take action.
