Parking Penalty Charge Notices in Northern Ireland
A Penalty Charge Notice is the civil parking ticket used for many parking contraventions in Northern Ireland. Understand the amount, deadlines and what happens next.
A parking PCN is currently £90.
The current Northern Ireland parking PCN is £90. If it is paid within the first 14 days, a 50% discount applies and the amount is £45.
An unpaid PCN can progress to a Notice to Owner.
If the PCN has not been paid within 28 days, a Notice to Owner can be issued to the registered keeper.
Once that notice has been issued, the registered keeper can pay or make a formal representation.
Ignoring the process can increase the amount.
If the required amount remains unpaid after the Notice to Owner stage, a Charge Certificate can increase the charge from £90 to £135.
The code on the ticket identifies the alleged parking contravention.
Northern Ireland uses standard PCN contravention codes for issues such as yellow-line parking, pay-and-display bays, disabled bays, loading restrictions and other controlled parking restrictions.
