Loading and Unloading Parking Rules in Northern Ireland
Loading can sometimes take place where ordinary parking is restricted, but kerb markings and signs can prohibit loading completely.
Loading may be permitted where ordinary waiting is restricted.
The Highway Code recognises that loading and unloading can be permitted in some locations where ordinary parking or waiting is restricted.
Yellow kerb markings can prohibit loading.
Yellow marks on the kerb or edge of the carriageway indicate loading restrictions. Nearby signs give the operating times.
A loading bay is for active loading or unloading.
A marked Loading Only bay is not a normal parking space. The associated sign can specify operating times and whether it is restricted to goods vehicles.
Do not assume every restriction has a loading exemption.
Nidirect specifically warns that not every formal exemption applies to every type of parking restriction. Check the relevant signs and contravention rules.
