Change Your Name on a Northern Ireland Driving Licence

A driving-licence name change cannot currently be completed through the online address-change service. You need the appropriate paper application and supporting evidence.

Application route

Use the appropriate licence form.

For an ordinary car or motorcycle licence, the official guidance directs you to the DL1. Lorry and bus licence holders use the relevant DL2 process.

The application must include the supporting documents required to establish the change of name.

Remember

Your driving licence and V5C are separate records.

Changing the details on your driving licence does not automatically update your vehicle registration certificate. If you own a vehicle, check whether your V5C details also need to be changed.
