Northern Ireland has different arrangements for licences issued in Great Britain, the EU/EEA and designated countries or regions. The exact rules also depend on the vehicle entitlement being exchanged.
Do not assume that because a car entitlement can be exchanged, every motorcycle, lorry or bus entitlement will transfer in the same way.
The official NI exchange process requires the DL1 application form, together with the required original identity documents, photograph, residency evidence and appropriate fee.
DL1 is available from main Post Office branches.
